AEPNAA and UCM agree to create a safe university environment for students with food allergies.
The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and AEPNAA, the Spanish Association of People with Food and Latex Allergies, have signed a collaboration agreement. This agreement aims to establish a policy on information, prevention, and support that provides UCM staff and students with food hypersensitivity a safe environment, enabling them to safely participate in academic, cultural, and social activities at UCM.
The collaboration extends to the following areas:
- Development of informational materials on food allergies. The content of these materials will meet the specific needs of the different university groups.
- Development of tailored resources for international students at UCM, providing the necessary information for the proper management of their allergies in Spain.
- Advice on food allergy matters related to university activities.
- Collaboration in the preparation of studies and technical works on food allergies.
- Involvement in identifying families experienced in managing food allergies to host international students, within the framework and conditions of specific programmes offered by UCM.
The Complutense University of Madrid is currently Spain’s largest in-person teaching university and the third largest in Europe. Around 75,000 people study and work there, including students (more than 65,000 per academic year), teachers and researchers (about 7,000), and administrative and service staff. In the 2024-2025 academic year, UCM offers 72 undergraduate degrees and 167 master’s programmes.
